Bilingual Competency Exam
Attention Junior/Senior Students: Apply for the Glendale Unified Bilingual Competency Award (BCE)!
Are you fluent in another language besides English? You may qualify for the Glendale Unified Bilingual Competency Award — a special recognition for graduating seniors who demonstrate proficiency in one or more world languages!
Students who qualify will receive:
Silver Medal – Proficiency in one language in addition to English
Gold Medal – Proficiency in two or more languages in addition to English
A special seal on your high school diploma

Registration Deadline: Friday, January 9, 2026 at 5:00 PM

You will need to upload a photo ID (school ID preferred; driver’s license or CA ID also accepted).

Location: Toll Middle School
Saturday, January 24, 2026
Arabic, Armenian, and Tagalog
8:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Saturday, January 31, 2026
Russian, Korean, and Spanish
8:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Once you register, you will receive a confirmation email with your arrival time and specific instructions for exam day.
Bring the following on the day of your test:

Your photo ID
-
A pen or pencil for the writing portion
(You will not be admitted without these items.)
About the Award
The Bilingual Competency Examination (BCE) is one of several ways to qualify for the GUSD Certificate of Bilingual Competency.
This recognition is separate from the California State Seal of Biliteracy, which has different criteria for qualifying.
